Conveniently located on Route 130, which runs between New Brunswick and Camden, the site of the Willingboro Town Center offers excellent transportation access to nearby interstate, state and county roadways.

The property is situated in the middle of Burlington County, New Jersey and is at the heart of the County’s economic development plan.  A recently released document, the Route 130 / Delaware River Corridor Strategic Plan was prepared by the Burlington County Office of Land Use Planning.

Roads serving the site and the Route 130 Corridor include the New Jersey turnpike (Interstate 295), State Route 73 and County Roads 541 and 656.  Additionally, the immediate area is served by three Delaware River bridge crossings and an active rail freight line.   A new turnpike interchange between I-295 and Route 130 is to be completed in 1999.

ReNEWal Realty and the Township of Willingboro are working closely with the New Jersey Department of Transportation to enhance access to the Town Center site.  Improvements under consideration include widening Route 130 along the property’s frontage, lengthening slow-down lanes for right hand turns and adding left turn lanes.  As the redevelopment proposal advances, these proposals may be modified to provide for maximum access opportunities to the site.

Importantly, and consistent with the development’s overall concept, ReNEWal is seeking to create mass transit and public transportation options for accessing the site’s shops, public amenities and educational institutions.  There are active discussions ongoing with appropriate planners and government officials to realize this aspect of the redevelopment project’s goals.  Additionally, by providing a source of jobs close to residential areas, the center will offer traffic-reduction benefits on the existing transportation network.

Also of significance is the proposed design of the site itself.  This design emphasizes view corridors, which create a walking-friendly environment that encourages pedestrian flow through the property, and leads people working at or visiting the development easily to every part of the property.  Ample parking will be provided at various locations and users of the site will find comfortable ways to get from point-to-point.  While the housing component of the project will be offset from other aspects of the redevelopment, residents also will be encouraged to walk through the provision of nearby amenities.
